Berlin
Transport - Berlin is very traveller friendly.
Wherever you want to go, there are multiple forms
of transport available to you.
The Railways in Berlin are getting
faster and better all the time. Lehrter Bahnhof is
to be Berlin’s central railway interchange from
this year onwards, and it has been integrated into
the Europe wide high-speed railway network. Other
popular railway stations include Bahnhof Zoologischer
Garten (Zoo), the Ostbahnhof, Lichtenberg, Wannsee,
Spandau and Schönefeld.
Travellers
arriving from Western destinations, including Hamburg
and Amsterdam, will arrive at the Zoo station. If
you are coming from Eastern destinations such as Vienna,
Prague and Budapest, you will probably come in at
Lichtenberg (East Berlin).
If you choose to travel by car in Berlin
then you need to be aware that speed limits in towns
are strictly monitored at 30 or 50 kmph on main inner
city roads. Dual carriageways can increase up to100
kmph. German motorways still have no speed limit unless
otherwise marked.
ADAC, the German Automobile Association
provides free maps, which include service and filling
station information. The maps are available at their
centres.
If you are travelling to Berlin by bus you will be
arriving at Berlin’s central Bus Station Terminal
on Messedam in Charlottenburg (west of the Zoo) just
opposite the radio tower - Funkturm - and the International
Congress Centre (ICC).
